LAUNCHING IN THE SUMMER OF 1970 on Auckland’s rugged west coast, New Zealand’s rescue helicopter service is believed to be the first civilian aeromedical operation of its kind in the world and continues to strive for excellence in its field.
The rescue helicopters can attend search and rescue missions, perform night operations, time-critical inter-hospital transfers, and assist other emergency partners. Westpac Rescue Helicopter’s teams go above and beyond to provide a professional, efficient service for the community, operating 24/7, 365 days a year.
The service is incredibly grateful for the government’s support but continues to rely on the generosity of the community to help keep flying. For those requiring our assistance, the sound of the chopper approaching is the best sound they could hear – bringing hope, help and expert medical care when it matters most. It’s this trust and support from Kiwis that ensures that the Westpac Rescue Helicopter is always there in times of need. Through its Chopper Appeal, Westpac aims to fundraise at least $1 million each year for the country’s 15 rescue helicopter services operating today.
