WHEN 17-YEAR-OLD PERCY BERRY was asked by a neighbour to help remove a swarm of bees, his passion for beekeeping began. In 1944 Percy bought nine acres of land on Arataki Road, Havelock North, and with his son, Ian, registered 131 hives to Arataki Apiaries Ltd. Fast forward 80 years, and the family-owned brand now care for more than 26,000 hives, and with more than 1.5 billion honeybees is one of the largest beekeeping businesses in the southern hemisphere and the number one selling honey brand in NZ supermarkets.
“As a fifth generation New Zealand beekeeping business, duty of care is ingrained in everything we do,” says Mark Berry, Beekeeper and Director. “We oversee and control the process, from hive to honeypot.” From creamy Clover Honey to genuine UMF Manuka Honey (all tested and certified true to the label by independent scientific laboratories in New Zealand) and everything in between, Arataki Honey is the taste of New Zealand.
“With trust and transparency at its core, surprisingly little has changed in how Arataki Honey produce and pack New Zealand’s favourite honey, and strive to make every pot of honey as good as the last.”
